Cans for Oysters

Christchurch’s Cans for Oysters program recycles thousands of aluminum cans and replenishes oysters to the Rappahannock River. Christchurch collects aluminum cans from our school and community members. We turn the cans in to Middlesex Metals and are reimbursed with cash. CCS then uses the funds to purchase new oyster seed from Oyster Seed Holdings, Gwynns Island, VA. With our calculations we have found that one can equals one oyster. One aluminum can = One Adult Oyster = 50 gallons of water filtered each day!

The aluminum can is the most sustainable, convenient and versatile container on the market today. Visit www.aluminum.org to learn more!
